Why did so many people like Bill Clinton?

Growing up, I had just heard a lot of times from many different people that Bill Clinton was apparently a really likeable president. He was before my time, so I don't have an opinion of my own.

Why do/did many people like him?

As a Con I can say he was somewhat likeable. (Excluding Lewinsky thing) A Southerner has a way of coming across as honest.

In general, a southern man or woman is more..honest. But this is a generalization and my opinion. Also Bush Jr was similarly likeable in the same way. Both of these guys 'seemed to' speak to us without a teleprompter.. Straight from the hip. I didn't like Clinton back in the day..but he's sorta OK in my book.

I just don't side with 70-80% of his views.

So I get me some good thumbs down... Hillary does not have this accent which is why she just sounds like a New York b itch. I'm pretty sure she would much rather live in New York then Arkansas.

He was probably the most handsome president since JFK.

He was probably the most intelligent president since JFK.

    Many people liked his accent.

Many people liked his speaking style.

Many people appreciated the good economy during his administration and the elimination of the annual deficit.

Many people thought he punishment for trying to protect his family from the embarrassment of having an affair be public was too harsh.

Many people thought that Ken Starr was not an impartial investigator and was out to get Bill Clinton.

Many people thought the impeachment was unjustified, mean-spirited, a waste of time and money, and totally politically motivated by the House Republicans.

You did not ask why some people disliked him so much, so I will not go through that list, but will not say there were not some good reasons to dislike him as well.

Yes, he's a personable guy. However, too many Liberals want to give him credit for things he had little to do with, like @BLU, who is often clueless on issues.

Clinton surfed in on a good economy. He had nothing to do with creating it, although he helped make it better. @Blu is mistaken on Clinton's fiscal responsibility. He started out adding $1.5 trillion to the debt, until Republicans took Congress. Now, to his credit, Clinton then tacked to the center, governing like a Classical Liberal (like JFK). It was tussles with Republicans that resulted in cuts in spending. He was more interested in being a good president than a Progressive Liberal ideologue.

Whether people know it or not, it was his willingness to compromise with Republicans that made the balanced budgets possible. For this, he gets good marks.

  • I would try to watch the second presidential debate between Clinton and Bush 41, which was a "town hall" style format. Clinton engaged the audience, and Bush 41 was seen looking at his watch.

He was and is a "people person." And the Democratic administration and the Republican Congress worked together to keep the economy in fairly good shape.

He was standing at the front of the parade when the economy was on a roll. Most important he was standing in front of the parade will Jobs, Gates, Dell came on to the popular scene. It was the information technology that made the 90s an excellent economic decade. Sadly the period left us with an uneven income that we now are very rightly concerned. Lets give the 6:30 news the greatest credit.

I was a business owner dependent on disposable income in the late 80s. Daddy bush kept telling me there was no recession but my accounting disagreed. My books indicated the average sale dropped f/ $12 to $3 ... I had twice as many customers but I was making half as much money. Bush was playing Reagan's hand who famously said deficits don't matter.

The campaign of '92 featured one of the smartest businessmen in my lifetime ... Ross Perot. He ran for president and put the recession in perspective. He went on air w/ his charts and graphs describing how harmful the deficit is. Clinton got elected and followed the Perot lead. Clinton slashed spending and increased taxes (largely on the wealthy). The budget was in financial order and prosperity ensued. I was making so much money, I was eyeballing early retirement.

Then gwb came along and he insisted on putting his GOP economic spin into the equation which calls for tax breaking the wealthy while signing every spending bill to cross his desk. He also started 2 wars w/ no way to pay for them. My business couldn't withstand the 2nd gwb admin. When he left office, he was responsible for the eye popping record $1.4T deficit which he passed to Obama ... the country went into deep recession ... all Perot's predictions came true.

Clinton was as good a president as there has been in my lifetime. He stuffed that GOP budget back in Gingrich's face, gov shutdown until the reps submitted a budget that was more "dem-like" ...

Even Gingrich gave Clinton credit (see link above).

Aside from the now know truth that he can't define "IS", Clinton's record indicates he was a better than average President.

My utter disappointment in his perjury and deceit in his personal life destroys any chance of a legacy.

He is the ultimate man, he screws any woman he wants and then women line up to vote for him for to be President.

I still cannot decide if women are really that shallow that they bow down to bad boys because of some sort of alpha male infatuation or if its just Bill Clinton made a deal with the devil.....it has to be one or the other.

    Hope that helps.

He was mostly a personable guy plus he just had the stupid scandal with Melissa, the White House internist or whatever she was. He was pretty smart other than one little "blow up". Plus comparing him to what we got afterwards was pathetic and sad.
