Does poetry have a place in politics?
Dear Mr Brown
Dear Mr Brown. It’s clear to me
Nu-Labour’s been a blast,
But, I have to say, I’ll enjoy the day,
When you are gone, at last.
The economy is in a mess,
For which we all must pay,
Though the gap between the rich and poor,
Gets wider every day.
You fought the war on terror,
Kept us safe and sound and free,
Till even judges cry,
There is threat to liberty.
You let MPs steal our cash,
To build moats and swimming pools,
Money that should have been spent,
On hospitals and schools.
Now, I hear you broke the law,
Went to war against the rules,
But then we already knew that,
You took us all for fools.
One day soon I get to vote,
I hope it’s not the last,
For laws are changing faster,
Than I’ve ever seen the passed.
But one thing still bothers me,
The opposition sometimes shared your view,
So tell me Mr Brown, who is there really,
To keep me safe from you?
The BNP is here to stay?
I hope you're wrong, I pray,
To get my vote,
They'd need a rope,
Around my neck, I'd say.

It's sad to say that Labour's day
Will soon be at an end
Though hopes were high, each further lie
Has driven us round the bend.
So Tory Dave, the 'Femail' rave
Will enter number ten.
Cut tax and rates for his rich mates,
the same old thing again.
They're all the same and we're to blame
We vote them in you see,
But never never can we ever
Vote racist BNP
They play a game to shift the blame
On those not white of skin
While Tubby Nick makes people sick
We cannot let him in
On polling day we have our say
Don't be a load of mugs
Pick up that card, think long and hard,
Say NO! to racist thugs.
To Red I say, you've had your day
You're not a poems man
From time to time you've hit the rhyme
But poems need to scan.

Yes there is, poetry is an excellent way of putting feelings onto paper and guess what you have done a great job of summing up the political position today.
Its great to hear you speak
of the way it is today
The BNP are there to seek
and protect us from the affray
But! how can we get em out
and vote commonsense in
vote BNP and shout
save our people from oblivion
Off your ar$e everyone
its time to put your cross
down to the ballot box alone
vote for the listening party, that's the only party that gives a toss
The BNP are hear to stay
I know that to be right
the fight is on now,yes today
and this time the mainstream boys are going to have to fight.

Edit.
You have your view and I have mine
But your edit seems to be taking the piss
It is good to debate on line
so lets not depart with a hisssssssssss
Maybe we can agree to disagree
but always make amends
let there be no animosity for everyone to see
and let democracy make us friends.

Yes, poetry, like any art form, does have a place in politics.
I am a revolutionary poet who writes and performs publicly.
Unlike the BNP supporters here, I won't try to force my work down your throats.
I am surprised anyone who supports the BNP can string more than a few grunts together. There intelligence is being sadly abused , as there are better alternative political groups to support, if they are just protestin against LIB/LAB/CON. Try looking at the CNWP website.

Whisper not to me of Xanadu, stately dome of Kubla Khan
Or those ageless warriors who brighten history's span,
I know of Omaha's grim beach and Iwojima's sands
The fallen always cherished and whose glory ever stands.
But I have heard of one fair land with places as sweet dreams
Of a fairyland of beauteous charm hewn from virgin realms,
Ah, savour Mavuradonna's heights and Chimanimani's peace
Oh land of sweet delight and true patriot's release.
T'is also said their strife was fair and noble was their cause
But honour with deceit was paid and almost without pause,
Scattered they were to far flung lands with little worldly gain
Save for that blessed hope that once their dear land may reclaim.
There is still the mystic silver thread that binds this gallant band
Of comradeship, travail and ah, the Regiment's last stand,
They say that hope still lies awake for some eternal hour
So tarry friend for thou mayest yet still smell such sweetest flower

Not bad at all.
Yes poetry does have a place in politics. It tells a story and poems often survive long after other articles and the events are forgotten.
So keep going.

when I commented in a poem on human beings calling me "sissy" and mocking me for having psychological ailment, you threw this at me, and in case you probably did not study it, the following became my reaction: you're expressing a political view, in basic terms one on favor of neutrality. i will not see eye to eye with those who're homophobes and picture the mentally sick are to be laughed at. in case you imagine permitting prejudice and abuse to pass unremarked on that you'll evade political fallout then you actually could get a job at Penn State.
