Our future planet will be ravaged by climate change, extinction of major species, competition for remaining resources and the domination of technology on our daily lives. I m in my mid 20s. Why shouldn t I put a gun to my head?

Even assuming what you said is true and it isn't, why wouldn't you embrace the time you have left and live your life to the fullest. If we are all doomed, party like it's 2016. As a geologist, we deal with resources such as oil and ores of all kinds. We had people suggesting we were at peak oil. President Jimmy Carter said we had 10 years left and that was the 1970s. Those who talk about resources running out typically don't know much about available resources. In my opinion we have barely scratched the surface of the giant ball of rock.
