Laptop HDD Check C 0x80 Drive does not seem bootable?

I was installing a fresh copy of XP Pro on a laptop and i deleted the vista partition via partition magic (on the dvd), Once I deleted Vista, I began a clean install. The install got approximately 83% in then failed. Now I can't boot via the DVD because the Hdd is not found in the bios and doesn't seem bootable. I have used this disc many times before and I've never had a problem until now. Any ideas would be appreciated. If you need more information let me know.

Thanks,

Mise à jour:

I pulled the hdd and checked the jumper, reinstalled it, now it can be seen in the bios, but still during the install it can't find the drive. The check software built in says drive does not seem bootable. Is this because its a sata drive and i potentially don't have the correct drivers installed on the boot disc? The only options I have available on the boot disc are partition magic (but it can't find the drive either), norton ghost and windows 98 command... I think I fubared it because there is apparently a pebcak error going on here.

if not detected in BIOS you're jacked, the BIOS doesn't care about partition table/format/MFT/BCD/etc..., only about HDD self-test. If it doesn't pass, the bios won't detect it. I'd say pull the drive and try it in a different machine, hopefully its a drive problem and not motherboard.
