On the Common App Arts Supplement, can you send in another essay along with your resume?
I have a cool story to tell about how I grew to love the flute, and I can’t use it on the common app because I already have another essay for that but demonstrates another side of me that's not about music.. I feel like writing another essay on my passion for music would make my resume a little more personal instead of just writing how many years I practiced my instrument and the musical activities I was involved in high school, but I don’t know if colleges would want that..

I did the same thing you did. I am musical as well and my commonapp essay was an exceptional piece about my community service involvement. When applying to Brown, I decided to include poem expressing my love of music on the final page of my resume. I then attached this to the supplement.
In the end, I don't think it really mattered all that much in the selection process. (My poem didn't swing me from the "maybe" pile to the "yes" pile...if you know what I mean). I would send an essay in with your resume if you were really passionate about music and that essay was extremely well-written. Otherwise, I suggest against it.
