How do I connect my laptop to my TV with a HDMI lead?

I have a Sony Bravia TV with 2 HDMI interfaces and a Sony VGN-AR61M laptop with 1 HDMI interface. I want to watch DVD's on my TV using my laptop. I purchased a HDMI lead and hooked them both up but t=the TV says PC No Sync.

I have connected my laptop to TV using VGA and audio leads previously which was successful. When I search for HDMI devices it says that none are found.

It says here: http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/how-to-connect-lapto...

"TV’s with a single digital port labeled HDMI/DVI require only one cable when the source is another HDMI component. But when source is a DVI laptop, you need a DVI-to-HDMI cable for the video and a separate pair of RCA analog stereo cables".

How can I find out if my laptop is a DVI laptop? Surely a Sony laptop with a HDMI interface can connect to a Sony HDTV with a HDMI interface? Perhaps not? When I purchased my Vaio Laptop I was excited that it had a BLU ray player installed. When I tried to play a BLU ray disc it would not work. I had to trail the internet to discover that Sony never intended it to be used to watch BLU ray movies die to copyright laws. Apparently it will only play BLU ray video that has been recorded on a video recorder and NOT a hollywood movie!

To me that's like Lamborghini producing a car and boasting that they have the best tyres fitted in the world and the best tyres that have ever been designed and developed for a car. Then when you buy the Lambhorgini you read the small print and it says their tyes are the best but only whilst driven in 6 - 8 mm of snow and between temperatures of 0 - 0.8 degrees C! Ok rant over. well not quite. I paid over £850.00 for my laptop and thge hard drive died after less than 2 years but Sony wanted £370.00 to fit a new one.

Hope you can help.

Mise à jour:

ok so its not rocket science that if you re-read your question and decide to be a nice guy and correct the typo's only to find out that you can't. Niceone Yahoo.

The V in DVI stands for video only and thus to hear anything the RCA analog cables are needed for the audio portion of any source.

The HDMI cable carries both video and audio and it should be possible to do what you want. You have to select the input channel to which the TV's HDMI port is connected. That should be in the manual that came with your TV. Once you do that, the audio and video output from your computer

Had you included the TV's model number (as you did for the laptop) I could have provided more detailed information by downloading the manual myself and going to the exact page to which I would have referred you. For example, page 92 of the laptop's manual gives the following information for connecting the computer to the TV via HDMI:

    **********************************************

If your TV is equipped with an HDMI port, you can then use an HDMI cable (not supplied) to connect the TV to your computer. To connect an HDMI-compatible TV to your computer:

1 Plug the power cord of your TV into an AC outlet.

2 Plug one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the computer and the other end to the TV.

3 Switch the input channel of the TV to external input.

4 Set up the TV configuration system.

If a device driver other than the one provided by Sony is used, the image will not be displayed and the audio will not be heard. Always use the device driver provided by Sony for updates.See the manual that came with your TV for more information on installation and use.

You can connect the HDMI out to an AV amplifier and audio will be heard through the AV amplifier and then another HDMI cable can be connected from the AV amplifier to the TV for the display.

If the display resolution of your computer is more than 1024 x 768 pixels, a part of the image cannot be displayed on your TV. If you want to display the full image, change the display resolution of the computer to 1024 x 768 pixels or lower. If your TV is equipped with an HDMI port and a DVI-D port, we recommend that you use the HDMI port. The HDMI cable carries both video and audio signals.

    ********************************************************

Look at step 3. You have to go through the list of various inputs and find the "channel" that the HDMI uses. Note the other dispaly settings that follow that need to be made to properly made to project the computer output on the TV.

Don't blame the technology. It offers so many choices and there needs to be a system to manage them. Yours is an interface issue for which simply connecting cables is not enough. That is why manuals are provided and need to be studied carefully.

If you have an HDMI port in your laptop, use an HDMI cable to connect it to your TV. You may need to modify your Display Settings to make sure you are sending a signal to the TV. Look in Control Panel.

I had the same problem with the same laptop. The only thing I could ever do was unplug the HDMI cable from the laptop and plug it back in.
