Is it required that you buy an 'unlimited data plan' with the Nokia E71x?
I am looking at purchasing a contract plan with AT&T. However, I am looking at the Nokia E71x, and I notice that I have to purchase a minimum of $30/month data plan. I really don't want to do that, as I just want the phone for text messaging, not data. Would I be able to just get a basic phone for free when I get the contract, then purchase the E71x on Ebay and move my SIM card to it and avoid the$30 month fee? Thanks!
Let me ask this... can't I simply pull the SIM card from the 'free' phone I get when I sign up without purchasing a data plan, and place it into a smart phone?

AT&T requires the $30/month data plan with all smart phones regardless of where purchased. If you don't want to pay for the data plan, avoid smart phones.

Yes it is they say now having a PDA/Handheld (Smartphone) you must have the unlimited data plan. This rule was just passed. I know this because when I recently tried taking internet off of my phone they said it is now required for all smartphones to have the unlimited data plan
