Yes on Thanksgiving day in November. The usual is turkey, corn on the cob, cranberry sauce, potatoes, yams , corn bread, squashes. To drink apple cider,, and pumpkin or apple pie for dessert. Turkey is also served for Christmas dinner.

Picnic foods can be just about anything, but most popular is fried chicken, barbeque ribs, macaroni or potato salad, hamburgers and hot dogs. Original to the US is barbeque ribs. Foods that have been brought here have been adapted according to the region and what is readily available to the area.

There are some things I think of that are almost primarily cooked in USA and no where else for example they do sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top in some parts of the US. This is pretty rare elsewhere. Green bean casserole which is green beans, mushroom soup and French fried onions that come in the can and baked in the oven. Other dishes I think of when I think USA are Fried Chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn bread and apple pie.

To the poster below me- too bad Canada doesn't have Thanksgiving...that would've been cool

Well I'd have to say it would be Thanksgiving. We are the only country who has this holiday, and 99% of Americans who eat meat will have the following dishes on this day:

    Turkey

    Dressing

    Sweet potatoes

    Corn on cob

    green beans

    deviled eggs

    sweet potato pie

    pecan pie

It's the one meal the United States has in common.

The second choice for me would be Christmas Dinner:

    Ham

    Green beans

    Baked beans

    Corn

    rolls

That is the only two times I can think of that most Americans are eating pretty much the same things. Otherwise it varies by region.

Not that I ever heard of. But there is the saying 'It's as American as apple pie'

Probably the most common American food is cheeseburgers and french fries. With a milk shake.

we don't have an official dish as far as I know, but I would guess cheeseburgers, and fries with apple pie for dessert.
