If Socialism is so "bad", why Does It always Bail out Capitalism?
Let's look as some Economical Facts:
1) Socialism bails out failing companies and banks.
2) Socialism bails out failing Airlines
3) Socialism offers companies loan deferments, tax abatements and employee credit all of which we call Corporate Welfare.
If this country depended solely on the Stock Market and Capitalism, the USA would have ceased to exist back in 1938.
So is Socialism a failure? Or is it Capitalism?
Cold grey, you are correct. In places like Austria, Sweden, Norway etc. are clear examples of pure socialism. The places are clean, nearly no crime and the median incomes are as good or higher than the US.
Good answer Liberate. It is so far a tie between you and Grey. :)

I think socialism is a great system, I'm considering moving to the Netherlands or Sweden after what I recently found out.
Did you know that in the Netherlands, you get all health care free - and that means anything you need, not just what the system (ie our insurance) will approve. If you have a baby the wife gets a year of paid maternity leave, the man gets 9 months paid paternity leave, then once you go back to work, you pay like $2 a day for daycare and the rest is payed by the state. AND you don't pay anything for the pregnancy care, labor and delivery, or the hospital stay - we were charged $18,000 for our son's birth and we ended up paying $3,000 after insurance. Also, if you are sick or have a death in the family, the same agency that runs your day care sends people over to your house to help clean and take care of the kids so you can rest - for free. Your housing is paid for, you don't have insurance. They tax a lot, but you go home with about 40% of what you make that you can basically do what you want with - buy food and clothing and have fun. Seriously - I don't have 2% of my income left at the end of the month!
Is socialism really so bad?

Personally I disagree with all. So I'm a pure capitalist.
One quick point on the depression before the War FDR got employment down to 14% and then it jumped back up in 1937 to around 19%. And one can argue that FDR did not do much to help the economy rather it was the War that finally jump started the economy.
.
People enjoy the ups of Capitalism but do not have the stomach for the downs. When the economy turns south the public turns to Uncle Sam instead of toughing it out. If we did not bailout the airlines people would have complained that they could not fly any where. Then people would loose their jobs and then more people would complain. The rising unemployment and faltering economy causes people to complain.
People who benefit from Corporate Welfare love it. Each year the Farm Bill is loaded his special breaks for the farmers. Subsidies are across the board for companies. It gets Congress reelected and makes people happy.
The fact is that when the economy goes south they want the government to step in and fix everything rather than let the market take its course.

You are correct. Capitalism is great in the infinite pursuit of individual and self interests, but Socialism brings society together as one and look out for one another. Capitalism would have ceased to exist after 1929 even without Socialism because of the FDR policies.
Capitalism will always prevail due to self preponderance because Capitalism ultimately will coerce Socialism to save it.
We have seen this for years that being now with the investment banks, the airlines after 9/11 and the automobiles in the 70's.
People are always cry wolf with the word socialism, but people have to face the facts it is all around America, most people are willfully ignorant to notice. For example, there is public schools, medicaid, medicare, national defense, public libraries, universities, and police and fire departments.

My biggest issue with this election is that I think if you work full-time, you deserve health insurance. All the other issues are secondary to me. If you look at it, giving health insurance to all Americans who don't have health insurance that work full-time will actually lower the cost of insurance because prevention is the biggest part of health care. I don't think either candidate has gone so far as to say that employers who employ workers 30 plus hours a week NEED to provide health insurance. But, I think it should be that way. Is that a socialist POV? I suppose it could be con strewed as such. But, I think it's more about doing the right thing. Just my opinion, however.
