Homemade toy sewing machine?
I asked this in Toys but it occurs to me that there may not be anyone older than 12 reading that section. So I am deleting that one and asking you guys instead.
I'm not interested in dollar value or anything like that, just wondering if anyone has seen one of these. It's the size of a toy sewing machine. The wheel moves but there's no hole in the sole plate, no place for a bobbin under the lid. It's just a pretend needle. As near as I can tell, that company name does not exist, and it's too crude to have been a salesman's sample. Was there a fad where people made these at home? I don't get how they could have cast the pieces, unless they're all salvaged. Here is a picture http://whozatvoice.com/mach1.jpg

Actually it looks like a home made trinket box. Judging from the handwriting. Wilcox and Gibbs was a sewing machine but never looked like this. Looks like someone carved a machine and added some old parts.

It looks like someone did do just what you said. Made their own cast. Very unique item.
on another note,
I am on the board for the local chapter of ASA. Would you mind reading my question on Autism Awareness? Any ideas?

actually this looks like one my great grandmother had...except
hers had a place for the bobbin..and it had a real needle ...i remmember it was really old but in very good condition..the one in the picture could be for advertising purposes like taking pictures or sketching for posters or door to door catalouges...it might be home made but i dont think it was a fad
