Are the restrictions we are now seeing on British civil liberties ,a direct result of the war in Iraq.?

Mise à jour:

so why wasn`t the sort of measures put in place .in the 30 years of being Bombed by the IRA the Government didn`t think them neccesary even when they themselves were hit

No, it is what the Labour party has been trying to phase in for years. Big Brother is here and is watching you and his name is Brown.

The restrictions on our civil liberties are a result of the unchecked immigration policies of successive governments that have allowed a fifth column to grow in our midst.

It isn't a driect result of Iraq, but the Global War on Terrorism.

Thsoe two things are not the same. Iraq was supposed to be a small part of our mutual war on terror.

I'm reminded of an old saying, "It is hard to remember when you are up to your @ss in aligators that the idea was to drain the swamp."

The same thing is happening in America. Our goverments are trying to identify and eliminate threats and in so doing they are intruding into our lives more than ever.

    g-day!

No. It would be easy to blame Iraq, and also understandable, but this issue is more complex.

If we were not in Iraq, extremists would target us because of our actions in Afghanistan. If we were not in Afghanistan, they would target us for being an ally of America. Or for supporting Israel (though the UK offered more support to Palestine before the election of Hammas).

You see, extremists are just that. They do not want reason. They want to kill. If they wanted peace, they would be working with us, and we would be working with them, to make the world a better place for all.

no its a result of fear, based on uncertinty, which stemed from terror, which started due to us helping the us help them, but the us never left they stayed where they wernt wanted, all those people left the "old world" to start afresh so why do they insist on staying in the "old world" so long?

No they are an indirect result of the situation in Palestine.

I would say it has more to do with American foreign policy (and our willingness to go along with it)
