Do humans "breathe" through the small of the back?
i have this friend who insists that humans can get oxygen through the skin of the low back region. I KNOW this is NOT true, but she insists it is, and that I am horribly wrong. SOMEBODY in the KNOW like a doctor or nurse needs to speak up before I go insane with annoyance!

I am a doctor, this friend of yours is either playing around you or is pretty dumb.

Your skin does breathe through it's pores but it is nowhere enough to substitute for normal respiration.
Hold your nose and close your mouth and attempt to suck air into your nostrils. You will feel air enter your eyes.
Nothing substitutes for normal respiration but your body does get very miniscule amounts of oxygen through pores. That is why if your entire body is covered with something such as tar your body will die even you can breathe because your body cannot breathe through it's pores.

it is impossible. don't let anyone try to tell you you can breath thru your eyesockets either....its impossible...ive tried.
