Our Boxer dog has increased in size dramatically...Any ideas why?

My boss's dog who is a boxer was stolen a lilttle over 2 months ago was finally returned to my boss last night. When she "disappeared" she weighed about 36 pounds. She was abnormally small and very cut and defined all over. She's a llittle over 1-1/2 yrs old. The vet thought she was perfect.

Now she weighs about 15-20 pounds heavier and overall her frame seems bigger. She does not seem anywhere near as cut and defined as she was before. She is very solid. This is definitely his dog as we can recognize her by her markings and tempermant/personality.

We are just wondering how she could have gained so much weight so fast. We were shocked when we saw how much her appearance changed. We think she was overfed and didn't get any excercise being that she was stolen and hid.

We are just wondering how she could change so dramatically so fast. Has anyone ever seen this happen to their boxer dog?

Thanks for answering.

There's no telling what the dog-napper was feeding her, or, how much exercise she was getting. I love the spunk and nature of the Boxer! They deserve the best of care and attention. Any owner gets it back, ten-fold! I would take her to the Vet for a general check-up and a blood count to rule out pregnancy or any other problems. And then, tell your boss not to leave without having the Vet hand him a bag of Science Diet kennel food to get her started on. I promise you... my own experience speaking... your boss will be soooooo impressed with what that particular food does for her frame, her coat and her muscle tone. At the same time, it will bring her whole composite back to proper carriage to ward off any over-feeding or "table feeding" the dog-napper may have been giving her.

i imagine they're considered to be a medium sized breed; they're truly proper between medium and great. I actually have owned boxers who were fifty 5-60 lbs and a boxer who grow to be 80 5 lbs, all of them wholesome weights. So someone canine might want to truly be of medium length or great depending on its genetics and enviroment as a puppy. My feeling is that an rather good type of human beings see a boxer as a wide breed 'reason they have an rather good type of presence!!

my boxer is 1 and weighs 60 lbs... my vet says shes at a good weight because she is petite for the breed.....your boss's dog probably was overfed, but doesnt sound overweight

I wonder if she was spayed while she was gone. Animals usually get bigger after they have been spayed. Other than that, I tend to agree that she was overfed.

She may have been forced to have a litter.
