Why are clocks being either stopped or taken down in places open to the public outdoors and indoors?

It's petty cost cutting at the expense of community spirit.  It's just assumed that everyone has a smartphone these days.  Some of the bus stops around me don't even have schedules on them anymore because the company just assumes everyone has the app.

Mechanical clocks (analog) with the hands wear out so maybe there will be a future digital clock replacing it in the next city budget?  Many people cannot read analog clocks.  Digital needs next to no maintenance and lights up at night.

Maybe they assume everyone has a cellphone. It's just like there aren't phone booths or mailboxes anymore. Convenient useful things are disappearing for the public and "you're on your own".
