You really need the remote that comes with the TV.
To use the TV with an antenna, you'll need to go into the TV's menu and under Channel will be a selection called "Scan for channels" or something similar. This will cause the TV to look for all the channels it can receive via your antenna. After that you can change the channel using the channel up/down buttons as normal.

First thing first, find out if the screen works. Hook up a DVD/Blu-Ray player or video game system and find a picture. You will need to buy a universal remote if the television does not have buttons on it for switching between inputs. to find the device you hook up to it. If the screen works, next comes playing with your antenna and a different antennae to see if you get a signal. Only certain antennae work nowadays because television signals are broadcast digitally. If you have any questions, Samsung customer service is actually very decent and will most likely help you determine if the television works for free.

How did you think you could watch TV if you don't have a Television service like cable or satellite? Do you have a DVD or Blu Ray player? You can plug that into the tv so long as you have the appropriate cables for it.
If it is a digital TV then you won't get a signal from just attaching a cable to an antenna.
