Power company installed a smart meter and it was making clicking noises. Electricians?

It sounded like a relay chattering and I could hear it louder from my main power panel which is on the other side of the wall from the meter. I had them try another one and it did the same thing. Then I had him put the old analog meter back in, and the noise went away. He didn't know what it was and called his supervisor who never showed up. I still have the old one in but I was wondering if any electricians have ever come across this problem and have an idea of what was clicking or causing the problem. There are no relays in the panel and no breakers tripped or anything. No power surges or anything (no lights flickering). I didn't look at the voltage (probably should have).

Mise à jour:

The chattering wasn't constant or consistent. It would chatter a few times, stop for a second or so then chatter for a few seconds then stop for a second or so. Pretty random as to how long it chattered and how long it didn't. I thought maybe something was arching, but I would think it would have sounded much louder and I would have seen flashing.

It was very strange and was certainly due to the smart meter somehow.

Mise à jour 2:

Update: Turns out it was a bad GFCI outlet right next to the breaker panel. Not sure why the new meter caused it to keep "tripping", but when I replaced it with a new one the noise went away (and never did it again), and the new GFCI doesn't keep tripping.

P.S. Nothing was even plugged into the GFCI, and it was on its own breaker.

Call the power company and speak to them about THEIR meter.
