What kind of kindle should I buy for myself?
I want to e-mail, use it for school, possibly read for pleasure. Does it come with free wifi or do i have to go to McDonlad's? I want to buy it off e-bay. I dont care if it is used.
Or should i buy some other type of device?

Hi Laura g.
Here is a list of all current models of Kindles and their features:

If you wish to use for school then you need the Kindle Fire HDX as Kindle Paperwhite would be just good for reading purpose.

On Kindle paperwhite 3g you can get free internet but is good only for reading purpose or checking emails on the go. Whereas for other tablets you would need to be close to WiFi hotspot to use internet. OR you can get the 4G model and pay bit extra for contract and use internet everywhere.

I think you just need a tablet and Kindle Fire HDX is pretty cheap and gives a good amount of features in this price range.

Ereaders don't create Wifi. They can connect to a Wifi network.
So if you don't have Wifi at school then yes, you would have to go to a Wifi hotspot to connect to the net.
The Kindle's browser is simple and generally uses the mobile sites. The eInk readers don't do animations or videos but the experimental browser should be able to use the mobile sites for Gmail etc. In the past I have used twitter's mobile site on my Kindle ereader.
I recommend Kindle Paperwhite so you'll have a touch screen. Any kind of browsing is maddening without a touch screen.
