How can I make my own homemade hair setting lotion?
I know several ladies who only have their hair done once a week.
Their hair stays put They say their hairdressers use hair setting lotion. I can wash and set my own hair however, my hair doesn't hold the set more than 2 days. I can remember my grandmother made her own setting lotion. Her hair never moved for one week. I never thought to ask her how to make this. She passed away in 1977 when my hair was down to my waist. No need for curls then.
Well.....I don't think I would want to buy beer some one I know might see me and think I was going to drink that nasty stuff. I am not sure I wouldwant KY Jelly in my hair.
I have so may verry good answers from my contacts. I just can't choose so I am going to put this one to vote, Love ya all.

Pamela, I know you are not going to believe that I am answering such a question as a Christian. The best hair setting lotion that I have ever used is stale beer. Your hair will not smell of beer so no one will know unless you tell them. It is an inexpensive method. I have a neighbor that drinks and always gives me a can that I open and let it go stale. My hair is almost waist length and it holds a couple of days in an up-do. Love ya sis!!
added: beer contains protein which can also help your hair without damaging it.

I long ago learned that my hair was straight and there wasn't anything I could do to curl it. If it did curl it lasted all of 5 minutes, even perms didn't work, washed out, I just found a style I like that is straight and short and went with it. I totally understand

Yo could use stale beer but it truly doesn't work al that well. I think you should just go to a Beauty Supply store and buy some setting lotion.

Well beer may work great but, this one tops them! "K-Y Jelly!" lol!
My good friend uses this on his dogs coats when he prepares them for "show"!
I am a cosmetologist. I used to enter hair shows at the beautician conventions.
This is what I used too, back in the day. :D
Gatita, good to see you again!
Peace and Blessings

1.Dissolve half a teaspoon of gelatin in warm water.
2.Add more gelatin as needed to reach the desired consistency.
