I am only able to use about 500Mb of 1Gb Micro SD card.?

Question

I purchased a Transcend Micro SD 1 Gb card for my nokia phone. I placed it in my phone and it told me the free space was approx 977 Mb.  That is fine, b/c my computer confirmed the size.  The problem is I loaded it with some music, and it quit transferring at around 500 Mb of data.  All it said was that the operation could not be completed.  I was just transferring some pics from my phone memory to my Micro SD card and it accepted two transfers, then says the same thing about the operation could not be completed.  Now it claims to have 505 Mb of information on it.

Does anyone know why this card won't fill up? I realize that there are 1024 bytes in a megabyte, and what not, and that even though it says 1Gb it won't ever be 1Gb my question is why will it only hold about half what it should? 
Did I get hosed?

No you didnt, this happens all the time. I dont know why. It just does. If you go and buy a 1 GB card, you may only get 700MB.  Its just the way it works. If I was you I would take it back and go and get a 2GB card. Thats what I have for my Nokia 5300 and I get 1.9 GB. Its well worth it. Make sure you buy the Nokia company ones though. They're more reliable.

U must format the card when u buy a new one..,remember it .,okay now u transfer the data to somewhere means keep a back up n format it now, do it for FAT32  ..,n u should see tht its showing 1gb then u r card ll B alrite ,,i also had the same probz so whenever i buy new one i'll format it.do it now it ll work ..and one thing ur not hosed!!!!!
