Could you help with planning our first Hawaii Vacation ?
When is the best time both for weather and/or less tourists to go to Hawaii for the first time?? Obviously not during hurricane season. Christmas? Thanksgiving? Would very much appreciate people who live in HA to respond.

I went in May over Memorial Day weekend and took an NCL 7-day inter-island cruise out of Honolulu, also spent 5 days in Oahu beforehand. While I'm sure a resident can give you more details, I can confirm that I had perfect weather the entire trip, and nowhere I went was mobbed with tourists. I believe April is supposed to be pretty crowded though due to many Japanese holidays, and the winter gets more crowded with surfers.

Ok, there hasn't been a hurricane in 14 years. So I wouldn't worry. The weather is great all year round honestly. There's a slight rainy season Feb-ish through April-ish...but even then, in general you should be ok. There was 40 days of straight rain a couple of years ago in april, but that was a record for the state. It usually rains a bit every day, but passing showers in the morning or evenings.
If you do go during the winter plan on avoiding all Northern beaches, as the winter swells come in and can make the waves dangerous. If you avoid the less touristy islands like Oahu, it shouldn't really matter when you go.
On Oahu: skip Hanauma Bay entierly, that'll be super crowded and isn't really a nice beach.
Big Island (kona side): is what I usually reccommend. Lots to do, safe beaches, great variety...but the volcano is acting up (nice show!) but the air quality is crap right now.

Hi I went to Hawaii last christmas weather was good not to hot not to cold bit of rain but it only lasted 3-5 mins at the most. Not many people there at all actually. I'm going back there in fall this year I've been told that's the best time for weather and amounts of tourists

I have been 3 times and have gone winter, spring and summer. Personally I prefer the summer. Each island is different and has a different feel to it. Oahu has lots to do in terms of tourist attractions. The Big Island has the volcano and a good mixture of attractions. I didn't like the beaches on the Big Island though. Maui has great beaches and tends to be more serene. I haven't been to Kauai but I hear it is beautiful with great flowers and waterfalls. Christmas is okay but it can be a bit cool (at least as Hawaii goes). Likely to get more rain. We were blown out of our honeymoon due to a hurricane over Christmas. I definitely recommend seeing Pearl Harbor, Paradise Cove Luau (both on Oahu); Kiluea volcano (Big Island), snorkeling N. Shore Oahu or Maui. As always its expensive so be prepared to shell out some $$$ wherever you go.

Go anytime you can get the cheapest rates. Hawai'i is always Hawai'i. Hey, hurricanes are a trip, I've been involved with two of them (Iwa and Iniki)...first time I've ever high-fived tourists. If your afraid then I suggest you got to California....Christmas is taken very seriously in 'da aina'; no snow but plenty enthusiasm. Hurricane season ends in November but global warming pre-empt's that, yeah? Since you don't really want to visit during hurricane season maybe Tiger Shark season or Portuguese Man-O-War season is better....lol.

WE went last christmas (10 days before--it gets more crowded at Christmas) & it rained some but was quite warm & there were very few tourists. although it was weird seeing all the pine trees & decor in the tropics & the heat. Shorts & swim suits & an umbrella & a hoodie---your'e there.

We went to Bermuda a few years back and we love it. Pink sand is very romantic lol. We found maui too touristy for us. We took a cruise out of NYC but you could easily fly their with your miles. Their are many quiant hotels that would be perfect for an anniversary. I would reccomend fiji but the flight is soo long, depending on where you live. On the east coast of the U.S its like a 23 hour flight. If you live on the west coast its obviously less but its something to factor in.

i live here, and i can tell you DONT go in the summer. there are the most tourists during the summer. go in the fall or winter, around thanksgiving or christmas time. if you go in the winter, it does rain often, but if you like rain, go! so id say around fall is better.
