can i see if someone is on xbox live?

It seems no one got the bit where you said "if i dont have xbox live". Well, the best way to do this is by going to Xbox's website and tricking your list into searching for an invalid gamer. I've taken the liberty of doing this for you, so all you have to do is go to:

http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/invalid.aspx

and under "Find a Gamer" input the Gamertag. From there it should give you their profile and their online status.

I think you can sign up for a free membership on xbox live website all you need as far as I know is @hotmail.com or @msn.com email address you get silver membership which is free if I remember correctly which allows you to have a friend list and access some member features. I could be wrong though you may need an xbox to do this.

xbox.com, sign in using your windows live messenger account, click friends and your gold, you can also send your friends text msgs via PC to xbox live :), you can also add people with your PC or remove them etc.

go to xbox.com and sign in with ur profile and u can see if ur friends are on xbox live.

u might be able to do it from bungie.net, but otherwise sign in on xbox live and check on the dashboard
