i buy them constantly almost every month *laughs* and the most i spent over 100 bucks! Thats during festive seasons where they have new range or limited edition products.
As for categories.... I feel that as long as you are a women, you will buy cosmetics and body care products no matter which category you are in. Just that type ad brands you purchase makes the difference.

In a year, hundreds. It is hard to say exactly without going through my cabinets. But, I spend the most on makeup. Mainly because it is expensive, and I get bored with the colors. I very seldom use all of any product. In the age group of 25+, women begin to buy upscale products because they are now able to afford them.
