I'm a recently graduated massage student with a "mysterious past". I've lived an interesting life, and my mother says I was born 40, wise beyond my years. I'm currently helping to plan weddings for three of my good friends, as well as my own. As a Leo/Dragon, I love giving advice, have pretty good taste, and am hoping to find a good interim job until I pass my boards. I have a kleptomaniac cat would keeps stealing my wedding jewelry off of the dresser.

  • Can you Scotch-Guard a wedding gown?

    My gown has a bit of train;

    http://www.preownedweddingdress.com/dresses/1453/

    My wedding is taking place in an open public area of a hotel;

    http://venetian.com/pages.aspx?id=212&

    ...with a bit of a walk to and from our transportation and to the two other hotels(reception at one, al fresco champagne toast at another). My train(and hem) will probably get filthy, even when bustled. Can I protect the hem with Scotch-Guard, or should I just be resigned to ruining the bottom of my gown? I'd like to be able to pass it on someday...

  • Invitations might be late! What do I DO!?

    Ours is a destination wedding, and I'm financially strapped. My FH kept procrastinating on paying for the invitations, and now our wedding's 7 weeks away. We became suspicious of the site that we were going to order from, so we ordered from another, but it's in the UK and the order may take a while to get here(I did put a rush on it) .I've instructed immediate family to spread the word verbally just in case, so that the invites will be a mere formality. I'm hoping everyone can make their reservations before the invitations even get to them. Some already have anyway.

    My question is: Will this work, or is there something else I can do? Perhaps send informal notecards to the out-of-town guests?

  • Very heavy wedding gown; I'll need my bridesmaids' help. How to ask this?

    My gown weighs 11 lbs. I'll be in it for at least 4 to 6 hours. What I'll really need is actual handmaidens, one to carry a fan(Vegas heat), and one to fetch water. A lot. They'll also have to help me with the embarrassing Wrangling of the Gown. The two I have are kind of flaky, and a bit sensitive since both of their relationships(we were ALL supposed to get married this year, but I'm the only one so far) are a bit rocky right now.

    How do I ask them to do these things without sounding like a Bridezilla?

  • What is the best way to bustle a wedding gown?

    I've seen the French, the Austrian, and the under-gown ones, and I'm not getting a Do-It-Yourself vibe here. I'm thinking of just having a wrist loop attached, since the gown weighs 11 pounds and I don't know if hooks or buttons will hold up.

  • Does anyone have a picture of the wedding ring from "Mrs. Winterbourne"?

    I saw it in the movie and fell in love with it, AND the ring box it came in. I just want to get a good look at a picture of it. I've Googled all over the place, but I guess the movie is too old...

  • What color diamonds would go best in this engagement ring setting??

    I can't help it. I LOVE diamonds! Especially colored stones like yellow, champagne, or even brown.

    When my FH bought me a ring, I told him I didn't need a formal engagement ring(we just did the JOP, formal wedding in the fall). I LIED. So I bought an antique setting myself and started looking at stones(yes, he got right-of-approval). This is the setting;

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item...

    I'm thinking a chocolate or cognac diamond for the center, and nine champagne diamonds surrounding it. My friends all say I should do the opposite, but I like the idea of my way better. Besides, with the darker stone it would be easier to get a .33 ct for a good price. I got 10 small champagne diamonds(certified non-conflict, of course) for $11 on eBay!

  • Can you have TOO many wedding rings?

    I have my Tacori-style eternity ring that is my actual wedding band(we used it for the civil ceremony), example;

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1...

    The more plain gold band that I just bought myself, to wear at work;

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1...

    The antique Victorian ring(that looks more like and engagement ring) that we're using for our formal ceremony in the fall, that we're having made. I'm paying that one for myself too.

    My FH said that he wants to get me another eternity band for our renewal ceremony when he retires from the military. I like the idea.

    NOW I'm thinking of having a ring tattooed on my finger for my other job(massage therapist).

    What's wrong with me? Am I suffering from Wedding Ring Schizophrenia?

  • Two ceremonies; do I surprise him with a second ring?

    We're having a civil ceremony in a week and a half. Because I was really broke then, he paid for both of our rings. I told him I didn't want a fancy solitaire, just an eternity band as an engagement ring(I was kind of fibbing. I know his finances are limited, too.). I LOVE the band he got me, and he loves his. But I found an antique setting on eBay for $25;

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPa...

    I'm going to have either inexpensive gemstones or cz's set in it, to make it match my band, and replace the stones with higher quality ones in the future. We can use it as the wedding ring during the formal ceremony.

    Should I buy him another ring too, maybe engrave it with his personal motto, and present it to him as his wedding gift before the formal ceremony(I already got him a gift for the first one)? I'm still broke, but I kind of want to separate our formal vows from our civil, and surprise him a little.

  • Should I volunteer to sign a pre-nup?

    My fiance suggested one before we were officially engaged, then again by phone a few months ago. I agreed, saying that he needed to protect his finances. But I also said that I would like a clause added protecting myself in case of infidelity. He got quiet for a few seconds, then made a few vague comments and changed the subject. He hasn't mentioned it since.

    I don't really need one, not for myself. I just want him to know that my debts are my debts and I don't want him to worry about them, since we'll still have separate households for the next five-and-a-half years or so(military).

    We're having our formal ceremony in October, but having a civil ceremony in two weeks. Should I bring it up again, or wait for him to do so? Or should I suggest we draw up a post-nup sometime between now and the fall?

  • Where can you buy a special hanger with a train holder for your wedding gown?

    I can't even find anything online. I called David's Bridal. They sounded insulted that I would even ask! Besides, they said, they just use regular plastic hangers. My gown weighs almost ten pounds. A regular plastic hanger might not survive.

  • I'm on a serious budget, can't afford silk/satin. Can you tea-stain a polyester-satin and tulle wedding dress?

    I'm getting married in mid-October. Working with a REALLY limited budget(almost everything goes to living expenses), I'm hunting pre-owned wedding dress sites, as well as eBay. I know what kind of gown I dream of, but I know that might have to remain a dream. Real vintage dresses won't fit my shape. I found one that works, and they'll let me put it on layaway, but it's the wrong color. They said to find out if it can be dyed to an antique ivory with tea.

  • How do I tell family members, that are flying in, we can only afford to feed a few of them after the wedding?

    My fiance's paying for most of the wedding, and our budget is limited. We're doing a ceremony in a gondola at The Venetian in the afternoon, travelling up and down the strip for photos, and having dinner at a Moroccan restaurant with IMMEDIATE family and the wedding party only invited.
