  • Can a preemie be breastfed, or fed breastmilk? (sorry if this is a stupid Q)?

I know I am getting ahead of myself, I am 20w. Yesterday at my scan I was told I had a placental abruption (sorry to my contacts to keep going on about this!). So the dr told me there is a possibility that they may have to deliver early depending on whether the abruption worsens or not.

My first daughter was full term, but I had problems breastfeeding. Problmes that could have been worked through had I been given support and teaching. But being a first time mother I never demanded help. Anyway, I am determined this time I will succeed at it.

I am aware some babys need to be intubated (sp?) and i understand nursing wouldnt be an option there.

I guess what I am asking is, what was your experience of BF your preemie?

    Thanks.

  • Did any of the mama's here have a placental abruption?

Had my 20w scan yesterday, dr said I had a placental abruption. It is still small, I am not bleeding out or have any discharge. Baby has all healthy organs, helthy size, and is getting sufficient oxygen and nutrition.

He explained all possibilitys (good and bad) and advised me what to do in between seeing him. I will be seeing him weekly for the timebeing.

Did any of you ever have a placental abruption, how did things go? Did you deliever early, if so when?

    ****

I already asked this in pregnancy, got lots of messgaes of support which is so lovely, just wondering if any N&B mamas are familiar with it.

  • 20 weeks pregnant, concealed placental abruption?

I have been experiencing what I have thought to be Braxton hicks, for a little less than a week. No discharge.

I went for my 20 week scan today to be told I had a placental abruption. The dr explained it and what it meant - the good stuff and the bad stuff. So now, I am obviously quite worried. He has given me advice to take it easy, report any pain / discharge etc. He wants to see and scan me on a weekly basis for the timebeing to see if the abruption remains the same, or if it gets worse.

Has anyone ever had this and everything went ok? Did you have to deliver early (I was told this is a possibility should the abruption worsen).

  • Is it too early for braxton hicks?

    I am 20w today, 2nd FT pregnancy.

I had NO braxton hicks contractions with my daughter, but know how contractions feel due to labour. I have pains in my belly that feel like contractions. The arent regular - but I am having a few an hour.

  • have you ever moved house with your toddler?

we are moving in 6 weeks. My daughter is 22m. We have only just got her into her own room at our current home (not her fault, mine because I didnt want to move her).

anyway, Im a bit concerned about how she will be sleeping in a new room, herself.

I have a blow up bed that I plan on using to room in with her for the first few nights. Problem is, I will be 26-27 weeks pregnant by then. Her daddy cant room in as he works odd shifts.

How was your toddler with the transition and did they need you to room in?

  • Moving house in 6 weeks, with a toddler and 20w pregnant - room decor?

My daughter loves 'In The Night Garden', she also loves Minnie and Mickey. I am torn on whether to decorate her new room something generic like butterflys, fairies, etc, or do character decoration. What would you do?

Also, for the nursery, I was going to go for a jungle theme and get the Fisher Price Rainforrest stuff. My only concern is, i don't know the gender - not sure if we are going to find out yet, scan is on Monday. Do you think jungle / rainforrest is a bit boyish, or do you think it would suit a girl too?

We have just under 7 weeks till we move.

  • Ebay - feedback extortion?

I sold an item on ebay, a small collectable ornament. I sold several from the same line, packaged them and sent them. All arrived fine and intact apart from one. The buyer messaged me to inform me, I replied saying that I would fully refund on receipt of the returned item.

she said she wouldnt waste her time and money, it was no good to anyone and if I did not refund (without any proof the item was broken), then she would leave neg feedback. I reported incident to ebay with header and copys of the emails.

Do they do anything about it?

  • Do you take 'hand-me-downs' or buy 2nd hand?

    Just as the Q said...

I have been buying loads from ebay the past 2 days, most of it is new, a few things are minimally worn. However, I wont buy 2nd hand shoes - I just won these new ones, they are so cute -

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ss...

I have also sold to some of my lovely Y!A contacts, who have been happy with their items.

  • Are you more qualified to look after your child than a daycare provider?

So reading about how mothers ''abandon'' their kids and leave them in ''prisons'' (I never knew prisons had really cool toys, but whatever), I had a thought.

These people who run and work in these centre must be trained in childcare, CPR, first aid, etc. what training do we, as mothers (''old fashioned'' or not) recieve in comparison to daycare providers.

Of course we know all our childrens little traits, what they like / dislike... But when it comes down to a life or death situation for your child and YOU and the ONLY one present, could you save your childs life?

I am certainly not getting at mothers who stay at home or work, its a question for the ''old fashioned mothers'' who believe daycare + providing = abandonement + neglect

  • Please help me control my hormones!!!?

Like the name says, I'm 18w+4d with my 2nd. I am super emotional today - why, I have NO clue.

My mum has taken my 22 month old daughter overnight, my partner is at work. So I done ALL the housework which Im proud of myself for because I have been really tired. I went to tesco and got domething nice for dinner, I started cooking it, expecting my partner to be in at 6.15 from work. He just called to say he was going to stay on a bit because his bosses were desparate.

As soon as I came off the phone I burst into tears. I know its not his fault, and I'm not upset *at* him. I'm just upset today in general. I cried earlier when my trousers wouldnt meet!

Any way to control your hormones, and if not whats the silliest thing you have been upset over?

  • i didn't really want to get dragged into the revolution, but I'm gonna ask anyway?

Ok so i wasn't here for the whole breastfeeding avatar revolution.

But someone just made a very good point - seeing those pictures and reading the Qs about BF acceotance etc, makes someone who can't BF feel bad, like they are rubbing it in their faces and saying ''i done it, and you didnt''

Now I KNOW it is not intended with malice, I do understand the point behind it. But did any of the breastfeeders take this into consideration, and as a mother who doesnt breastfeed, how does it make you feel seeing all these Qs and avatars.

  • Parents / those who deal with Autistic children - do drs need more training?

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090605/tuk-doctors-n...

Basically, the report says that up to 400K adults in the UK may falling through gaps in the system because Drs have failed to spot Autis,. Only 20% admitted to needing further training regarding Autism.

My nephew is 10y/o, he is Autistic, diagnosed just after he turned 2. Shortly after his 1st birthday my sister started noticing he was different to all the other kids in his toddler group. She went to the dr who assured her all kids are different (which yes, is true). After a few visits she was referred and the diagnostic process began.

I guess you could say that the drs handled it ok, she wasnt sent away too many times, after a few visits her fears were investigated etc.

The problem with drs that we have encountered pertain to their misunderstanding of Autism. Drs who do not know how to speak to an Autistic child, drs who asked us - ''Why isnt he answering me when I ask if he is in pain''. A nurse who was attempting to treat a cut on his head, who stormed out the room saying - I shouldnt have to deal with badly behaved kids.

Have you encountered any ''proffessionals'' that have had a complete lack of knowledge about your childs Autism

  • Spots on her cheeks, but nowhere else & no other signs of anything?

My daughter is 22 months. As of today, she has had spots on her cheeks, there is about 5-7 on each cheek, they are red, only very slightly raised, they are not irritating her and they are nowhere else on her body.

There *was* hand foot and mouth disease in her gymnastics class over a week ago, but as far as Im aware, the child has recovered and all equipment in the hall was cleaned.

    Here is a pic...

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholajanewatters/35...

The spots appeared early afternoon, and have gotten slightly worse. Any ideas what could be wrong?

(Obviously, I will be taking her to the dr in the morning if she worsens)
